I’m Shaun W. Thompson, originally from Walnut Creek, California, now settled in Baltimore County, Maryland. My journey has taken me from California (San Francisco and Los Angeles mainly) to Long Island, NY to the Greater Baltimore/Washington D.C. area and hopefully on many more adventures in the years to come.
My professional life is deeply rooted in Agile and Scrum, where I've transformed teams and driven change management across myriad industries and domains. I currently work at Scrum Inc., where I am fortunate to collaborate directly with Dr. Jeff Sutherland, inventor of Scrum and Scrum@Scale and co-creator of Scrum. Before this, I held various roles, from martial arts instructor to personal banker to Product Manager to Agile Coach and Scrum Master. Additionally, I am a registered Scrum and Scrum@Scale trainer, dedicated to helping organizations achieve their goals.
I am also the founder of NarrativeThread.AI, where I am leading an innovative venture at the crossroads of technology and storytelling. With a rich background in Agile, leadership, and consulting, coupled with a deep passion for the art of creative writing and telling powerful stories, I aim to revolutionize how narratives are crafted and experienced through cutting-edge AI technology. My roles as an operating model architect and enterprise-level transformation consultant have shaped my career.
Outside of work, my interests are diverse. I’ve been passionate about motorcycling since childhood, finding it therapeutic and freeing. I currently ride a 2023 Triumph Speedmaster, and it is a joy. I enjoy role-playing games and have been a dedicated Dungeon Master/Game Master since 2000, weaving stories and engaging in epic adventures. My creative side also extends to poetry, short stories, and novels, with three published books of poetry currently available on Amazon.
Some fun facts about me: Martial arts have been a significant part of my life, shaping both my physical and mental discipline. I have 17 years of experience in various styles, including seven years in Hapkido, where I earned a 2nd Dan black belt, and five years in Taekwondo, where I achieved a 1st Poom (children's black belt). My training also includes Yudo (Judo), BJJ, Aikido, Muay Thai, Tai Chi, and more. I spent several years swing dancing, a passion that began in high school. Though injuries have sidelined me, the rhythm and joy of dance remain close to my heart. I also enjoy painting miniature figurines, including those from wargaming and board games.
Balancing professional commitments with personal passions is a constant challenge, but it’s this blend of work and play that shapes who I am. Explore my site to learn more about my journey, my work, and my hobbies. Let's connect and share our stories.
